Obituary - Francis Schweizer

Francis Schweizer passed away May 27 at the age of 96.
She was a Huntingford and grew up on the family homestead.
She loved animals, especially her riding horse.
She was her Fathers favorite and he called her Frankie.
My Mother never forgot her Huntingtford roots and the Huntingfords greatest traits - family, honesty, and belief in the Bible as the inspired word of God.
She was married to Herman Schweizer for 70 years having three boys.
She was a good wife, mother, and homemaker.
She played a key role in the New Apostolic Church for many years helping my Father who was the Pastor of the Tacoma Congregation.
She was active in the PTA and held elected positions.
She traveled the world and helped my Father in his overseas assignments.
My Mom was always thinking of her children and I will be forever grateful to her for giving me my great grandfathers sea chest in which he kept his Bible.
It was a favorite story of hers how he sailed around the world two times in both directions, rounding Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope, and was even involved in two wars with China.
He was an officer on a British Man O' War Royal Navy sailing ship.
She also liked to tell the story of her Father and the rich doctor in Port Townsend.
During the depression her Father cut down trees on the homestead, cut them up, and split the wood to sell as cordwood to people in Port Townsend to heat their homes.
He received an order from a doctor and delivered him wood.
The doctor wanted her Father to stack the wood to make sure it was a cord.
Her Father did and it was more than a cord.
Her Father then said to the doctor: "Don't ever call me again to sell you cordwood," and left.
I loved listening to my Mothers stories about her Father and Grandfather.
It was always family.
In my mothers Golden Years she suffered two major strokes,
She was an inspiration to many by how she carried on.
My Mother was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and five siblings - Irene, Dave, Grace, George, and Bob. She is survived by her three sons - Bill Schweizer , Issaquah (Sherry Schweitzer, Leavenworth, Washington), Gary Schweizer  (Shelley Mickelson) of Port Headlock, and Kurt Schweizer (Terri) of Port Townsend and five grandchildren and five great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

My Mom was an excellent cook.
I'll always remember her Sunday family dinners after church.

Today I asked my oldest boy to have his sister notify my brothers how they and their people can make comments about my Mother.

My Mother believed the return of our Lord was imminent which the New Apostolic Church believed.
She didn't live in a bubble.
I'll always remember her saying: "Thank God my Mother isn't alive to see what is going on in the world today."

The obituary about my Mom continues to be my most well read post week after week.
This has never happened before in all the years I have posted to my blog.
People really want to read about the very best in a person - my Mom.

Not many people have climbed a mountain with Jim Whitaker - the first American to climb Mount Everest - but my Mother has.
She was part of a small group of climbers that ascended Mount Zion in the Olympic Mountains of Washington to scatter the ashes of a well known Washington mountaineer.
A picture of the group was taken on the summit showing my Mother standing by Jim Whitaker.

When I was in high school and into college I worked at a factory.
Everyday at lunch we would see what kind of sandwiches our Mothers had made for us and trade sandwiches.
My Mothers sandwiches were always the tastiest and therefore the favorite.

My Mother never missed a swim meet.
Ill always remember how my Mother and the other Mothers were so excited and cheered us on.

Another favorite story of my Mother was how her Grandfather stood against corruption.
Her Grandfather was a Jefferson County Commissioner when the contract for the Jefferson County Courthouse was let.
The other county commissioners wanted to use cheap bricks and take a kickback from the brick company back east.
Commissioner Huntingford exposed his fellow commissioners and stood against this.
He was successful but was not re-elected.
The voters came to realize he was an honest man and did the right thing and elected him justice of the peace.
Because of John Huntingford the Jefferson County Courthouse was constructed of quality bricks and still stands today.
It is on the national registrar for historic buildings.
John Huntingfords name is on the cornerstone.

I never knew my Mother to tell a lie.
She was the most honest person I have ever known.
